DEAR ACSA MEMBERS:

The Governor has appointed Charlene Lee, 16 of Walnut as the student member for 2009-2010 to the State Board of Education. Annually a student member is appointed with full voting rights. The State Board is comprised of eleven members. Ten members are appointed by the Governor and subject to confirmation by the Senate Rules Committee and full Senate. The student members is recommended by the State Board of Education based on applications submitted. The final appointment is subject to confirmation in the Senate.

Charlene Lee is an honor student and senior at Walnut High School. She served as a congressional page in the U.S. Senate for Congresswoman Hilda Solis (D-Los Angeles) in 2008. She also served as vice present of the California Association of Student Councils which is active in advocating on behalf of the needs of students in the K-12 public school system in California.
