Latino Students and English Learners

 Strategies to Improve Student Performance

Why are Latino students and English learners succeeding in some California schools and districts?

Educators from schools with large socio-economically disadvantaged populations of Latino and English learners present strategies for success.

The Executive Director for Language Acquisition from Chula Vista Elementary SD, the Assistant Superintendent from San Francisco USD, the Principal and Teachers from Torch Middle School in the Bassett USD, the Principal and Teachers from Sweetwater High School in the Sweetwater UHSD, the Principal and Teachers from Santa Fe High School in the Whittier UHSD, and the Director of the University of California, Davis Mathematics Project present specific information about curriculum, instruction and assessment approaches in the classroom and support systems outside the classroom that have resulted in impressive gains for this subgroup of students.

Additional Principals and district office administrators have been invited, and will be announced soon. The conference will be organized in Elementary, Middle School and High School strands.

Total School Solutions, in partnership with the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) and the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA), will host this institute on Thursday, March 25, at the Hilton, Ontario Airport.
