RE: Algebra 1 Summit - October 8, 2008
I want to alert you to an upcoming event that may be of
interest. ACSA and School Innovations & Advocacy are
hosting a one-day policy summit on the State Board of
Education's decision to make Algebra 1 the test of record
for the state's 8th graders over the next three years.
While ACSA has joined the California School Boards
Association in filing a legal challenge to the Board's
action, ACSA also believes that it can be helpful for all
parties to find ways to have civil discussions about policy
issues of great importance.
This summit is a chance to hear many of the key policy
makers involved in the decision reflected on the action
taken by the State Board, its policy underpinnings and to
look forward on implications for students, teachers and the
system.
I'm sending along the brochure for the conference. Please
see link below. Our Executive Director Bob Wells will be
participating as well as some of our ACSA members and
leaders. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to
contact me at
sgriffith@acsa.org, Kevin Gordon or Scott Hill at School
Innovations & Advocacy. They can be reached at
