TO: LEAs in NCLB Corrective Action FR: Sherry Skelly Griffith, ACSA Governmental Relations RE: NCLB Corrective Action State Board Item#6 – Scheduled for Hearing November 5, 2008 Thanks to all of you for attending today’s information meeting in Sacramento. We hope you found it useful. For those LEAs who did not attend today, we want to alert you that the State Board of Education will hear SBE Item#6 on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 in Sacramento. The meeting begins at 9am. It is anticipated the SBE will vote to assign corrective actions to all 50 LEAs and also assign recommended technical assistance. Twenty six LEAs will be required to contract with a DAIT and implement their recommendations and twenty four LEAs will be required to access technical assistance to analyze LEA needs and amend the LEA Plan or Addendum and implement key action steps. All 50 LEAs are slated to receive the sanction which requires you to fully implement a new curriculum including professional development. You should have received a letter from State Superintendent Jack O’Connell dated October 28, 2008 notifying you what CDE will recommend to the State Board on November 5, 2008. If you plan to request a change to your corrective action or technical assistance you are strongly encouraged to attend and speak at the meeting. You may also find attending and hearing how the process works helpful to you, your staff and board. To view the entire SBE Item#6 please go to www.cde.ca.gov and then click on left home page section entitled State Board of Education “meeting agendas” then click on November 5-6 and go to SBE Item#6 and attachments.
